Meningitis Symptoms and Causes

What is meningitis ?

 There is a membrane called the meninges to cover and protect the brain and spinal card.  Infections caused by bacteria or viruses cause inflammation in meninges.  Which is called meningitis.  There is swelling on the brain membrane and the patient gets a fever.

 Symptoms of meningitis:

  • There is intense pain in the head of the patient.
  • The patient vomits.
  • Resting causes mild headaches.
  • The head may bow to another.
  • The stomach pulls inward.
  • The neck swells.
  • Children become irritable.
  • I do not feel like playing with children.
  • Children remain sluggish.
  • There is a lot of weakness in children.
  • Fever sometimes intensifies and sometimes becomes mild.
  • The majority of meningitis is in children up to 3 years old.
  • The muscles of the neck are twisted.
  • Hunger ceases.
  • The children are restless.
  • The child turns his face towards the bright light.
  • The head is bent backward.
  • The muscles of the neck are so cramped that if tried, the child cannot be brought forward to the knees.
  • Children speak upright.
  • Vomiting does not stop easily.
  • Fainting may occur.




 

 Complications of meningitis:

  • Sometimes jaundice also occurs with meningitis.
  • The child shouts in a loud voice.
  • Frequent vomiting.
  • Children become irritable.
  • Physically and mentally challenged.
  • Children can be deaf.
  • Epileptic seizures occur.
  • Children stop drinking milk.
  • Most meningitis is caused by bacteria.  It occurs in children between 6 months to 3 years of age.
  •  In children, the disease is caused by Pneumococcus or H influenzae bacteria.
  • Disease potential to bacteria is not developed in young children.
  • Children who suffer from meningitis tend to cough up or sneeze and spread as small droplets in their very close environment.  In children coming into contact, it reaches inside by breath and goes through the blood to various parts of the body.  After reaching the brain, they cause inflammation.
  • Among the people living in congested and dense settlements.
  • If the child has had an ear infection before.
  • If there is a child suffering from infection at home.
