Diabetes symptoms and causes

 What is diabetes?

Diabetes (sugar) is a disease in which the level of sugar or glucose present in the blood is greatly increased.  We get glucose by eating food and a hormone called insulin helps this glucose to go into the cells of the body to give them strength.

The most common symptoms of diabetes are frequent urination, rapid thirst and hunger, weight gain or abnormal loss, fatigue, cuts or wounds, inability to recover quickly, and sexual problems in men and extremities.  Feeling tickled or numb.

Over time, due to too much glucose in the bloodstream, many serious problems can occur.  This can cause damage to your eyes, kidneys, and nerves.  Sugar can cause serious problems like heart problems and strokes, even due to this you may need to remove your hands or feet.

 Causes of diabetes:

When insulin reaches the pancreas of our body, the level of glucose in the blood increases.  This condition is called diabetes.  Insulin is a hormone that is made by the digestive gland.  Its function is to convert food inside the body into energy.  This is the hormone that controls the amount of sugar in our bodies.  In the case of diabetes, the body has difficulty making energy from food.  In this situation, increased levels of glucose start damaging various organs of the body.

This disease is more in men than women.  Diabetes is mostly hereditary and due to lifestyle deterioration.  In this, hereditary type-1 and diabetes due to irregular lifestyle are placed in a type-2 category.  The first category comes under those people whose parents, or grandparents in the family have diabetes, then the family members are more likely to get the disease.  Also, if you reduce physical exertion, do not sleep properly, have irregular eating and consume mostly fast food and sweet foods then the chances of getting diabetes increase.
